My Daughter Emily Joined TD a year ago, she was a decent 8 year old swimmer. A year later and her swimming is coming on great. However, what Emily has gained from the club has been so much more than that. She joined as a nervous, shy young lady more likely to be tearful than to swim in front of people….now swimming in front of people isn’t a big deal at all, in fact she relishes it! Her independence has flowed…

Sport is more than competing it’s about comradery and feeling part of a team. Torfaen Dolphins has given this to Dylan and more. The coaches have helped and encouraged Dylan from day one, guiding him from a keen recreational swimmer to now being a member of the Welsh Para swim squad. Dylan’s potential was spotted and developed by the coaching team from an early stage. They showed great patience as they developed his stroke and built his fitness to a stage where he is able to compete on the national and international stage. The close relationship between Dylan and his coaches promotes respect and more importantly confidence that spills over into his personal life. The routine of training, the commitment of coaches to facilitate his will to succeed to his maximum potential and the close friendships developed within the Torfaen squad promotes life skills that will serve him well in later life. Dylan has developed friendships across Wales, UK and more recently internationally through swimming. The coaching staff manage to find the perfect blend of fun and discipline needed for this very competitive sport, as a result Dylan is first out of the door at 5.30 every morning keen to get into the pool.

Our daughter has been swimming with TD for nearly two years. As a swimmer with an upper limb difference, the club and their fully inclusive approach has enabled her to move from a development swimmer, through classification and now a performance swimmer participating and medalling in national and international Para events. As a 10 yr old, the confidence, experiences and resilience that the coaches have helped to develop in her is just phenomenal. We as a family cannot thank the coaching staff enough who give their time tirelessly and voluntarily to nurture and develop every individual, regardless of ability, with enthusiasm and dedication to the sport.

Torfaen Dolphins has helped me to have the confidence to compete as a Para swimmer. The coaches work us hard but we have lots of fun! I’ve made loads of new friends at the Dolphins and love being part of such a great team! Everyone is really friendly and the coaches are pretty cool too!
