An amazing weekend of swimming for TD!

December 6th, 2018

The weekend of 30th Nov – 2nd December was an extremely  busy and successful one for our swimmers with many of them competing far and wide around the country.  Find out where and what happened below:

Welsh Winter Short Course Championships at the National Pool, Swansea.

Last weekend saw many Torfaen Dolphins compete at the Welsh Winter Short Course Championships at the National Pool in Swansea. Three full days of fierce high level competitive swimming. The focus for the swimmers this weekend was to build on the success and experiences gained at the Stockport Metro Swim meet two weeks earlier by delivering ‘elite skills’ on starts, turns and consistent stroke rates from start to finish. All swimmers that competed achieved personal best times, with many swimmers making finals and winning Gold, Silver and Bronze medals along the way. A large percentage of the team were swimming ‘out of age’ or competing at the senior level for the first time, these experiences will certainly help with each swimmers confidence in their journey towards swimming excellence!

National Para-Swimming Championships, Manchester

Top para-swimmers from across the UK took to the pool this weekend at Manchester (1-2 December) including our own Alex Rosser, Dylan Broom and Meghan Willis (featured below with her medals). More than 220 para-swimmers took part in the long course event organised by Activity Alliance in partnership with British Para-Swimming.

“What a day! They say a journey is never smooth and we’ve had one of those today. We are so proud of our little para swimmer with the resilience she has shown up against, at times, older swimmers! She smashed it and got a gold and 2 silvers in the 10-13 aged category!” Suzanne

Tigersharks Last Chance Open Meet, Swindon.

It was a weekend which saw our coaches and swimmers spread out like a dusting of snow all over the UK….even though we had lots of rain! We had the mighty Alun, Brett and Sean at Swindon for the Tigersharks ‘Last Chance’ Open Meet with a variety of swimmers from Performance 1, 2 and 3 squads. What a fantastic venue! Although there wasn’t much room poolside, we had swimmers achieving fantastic pbs and winning lots of medals. I thought I was surrounded by a bunch of B.A.Baracuses from the ‘A’ Team at one point, as everyone seemed to be earning some bling! They all showed huge determination and have such massive hearts! We had an army of officials representing the club with us, who also gave their all. The parents too, as always were a superb help (despite them having to sweat it out on the balcony!) and I’d like to thank them all for their continued support! We even received a comment from the Head Judge that the TD coaches certainly  ‘knew their stuff,’ when it came to DQs and challenging decisions.

After the first day was complete, we had a great night out on Saturday and then it was back to business on Sunday where we picked up from the day before. Oh yes, I mustn’t forget to mention how superb the food was – we had a roast Turkey Christmas lunch on the Sunday. Yummy!! Thank you, Swindon Tigersharks!

All in all, we had outstanding performances from all and some brilliant results. You couldn’t ask for more from the swimmers. Well done!

Alun, Brett & Sean

Sarah I just read your piece and wow what an inspiration you are to our younger swimmers. Your enthusiasm is boundless not just to the younger swimmers but the older swimmers too! I personally think you are an asset to the dolphins and the little ones are lucky to have a lovely smiley encouraging coach xxx

It was a brilliant gala Sarah. You looked fab and your enthusiasm is boundless. Can’t wait to see your costume for the spooktackular! Do you know what date it will be yet? Just in case I can nag Jon into booking a weekend away in October half term. Xx
